New panel: your Legacy VPS and the new Cloud VDC

We have upgraded our management panel to a new version: more modern, faster and with many more options to manage your services yourself. If you have been with us for years, you will notice the screen has changed completely. This article explains, in plain language, what has happened, where your existing services are and what you can do from now on.

The most important thing first: nothing has been lost. All your VPS, your IPs and your data are exactly where they were. The only thing that has changed is the panel you manage them from.

Where are my existing VPS?

Your current services -the ones you have been using all these years- now appear grouped in a section called Legacy. You will find them in the VDC section, under the Legacy VDC tab, and also in the general VPS list.

A VDC is simply a "container" where your resources are organized (VPS, IPs, etc.). The one holding your existing services will have a name similar to "[Your name] Legacy".

If you only have one VPS, the panel will take you straight to its page when you log in.

What is a "Legacy" VPS?

A Legacy VPS is one of your long-standing services, just as it was:

  • It works exactly as before: you can power it on, off, reboot it, open the console and reinstall the system, and your automatic backups keep running as always.
  • You keep paying the same, in the same place: your VPS is still charged in the client area (cli.ginernet.com), with the same terms, the same price and the same billing cycle as your current contract. Absolutely nothing changes in your billing.
  • If you paid in advance (for example one or two years), that payment is honoured: your service stays covered until its renewal date.
  • You do not need to do anything at all for it to keep working.

The amount you see in the Manager for a Legacy VPS is only indicative: it shows what that VPS would cost if you converted it to Cloud, under the new pay-per-use rates. It is not what you pay now and you are not charged for it. As long as your VPS stays Legacy, you keep paying the same as always, in the client area. In other words, everything stays the same.

Because these are services "inherited" from the previous system, some of the new panel options are not available for them (see the comparison below).

What is the "Cloud VDC"?

The Cloud VDC is the new service model, designed to give you full control and flexibility:

  • Scale resources individually: you can upgrade only the disk, or only the RAM, or only the CPU, without changing plan or server.
  • Run manual backups whenever you want, on top of the automatic ones.
  • Configure the firewall of your VPS from the panel itself.
  • Create and delete VPS yourself, instantly and with no waiting.
  • You can order additional IPs and IPv6 blocks.
  • Pay-per-use (prepaid, per hour): you pay only for what you use, in advance, from your account balance. You top up balance and the system charges for every hour the service is active.

In short: the Legacy mode keeps what you already had; the Cloud mode gives you far more freedom to manage your resources on your own. To benefit from these new features, you need to convert the VPS to Cloud and adopt the new rates.

Do I need to do anything right now?

No. Your Legacy VPS will keep running and being paid just as always, in the client area. You can stay on Legacy for as long as you like.

Moving to Cloud is optional and makes sense when you want to take advantage of the flexibility of the new model. For example, if one day you need to upgrade only the RAM or only the disk of a VPS, run a manual backup or use the firewall, those actions are only available on Cloud.

Offers and discounts on Cloud: the "bonuses"

On Cloud you pay in advance from your balance (pay-per-use). That is why offers and discounts are not applied to the VPS price but when you top up balance: on your dashboard you will find the "bonuses", which give you extra balance when you make a top-up.

In other words, the hourly price of a Cloud VPS is always the same; what the bonuses give you is more balance for the same money, which is then drawn down as you use the service.

How do I move a VPS to Cloud?

Do not create a new VPS to "move" your service. The conversion is done on your current VPS, with a dedicated button, and keeps your IP, your data and your system. If you try to create a new VPS reusing the IP of one you already have, the panel will warn you that "there are no free client IPs in this float group": that is expected, it is not the right path. Use the Convert to Cloud button explained here.

Follow these steps:

  1. Create a Cloud VDC first. The conversion needs a destination, so if you do not have one yet, create it from the VDC section. Creating the VDC is free and you can have up to three. (If you try to convert without a Cloud VDC, the system will not let you continue.)
  2. Have some balance in your account. Cloud mode is prepaid: top up balance from the Balance section (and take advantage of the dashboard bonuses if you have any available). You need to cover at least the equivalent of one month of the service. (The time you already paid for on Legacy comes back to you as balance when you convert; see the next section.)
  3. Open your Legacy VDC. In the VPS list, each VPS has its own "Convert to Cloud" button. Click the one for the service you want to move.
  4. Review the summary. You will see the target Cloud VDC, the per-hour price and an estimate of the balance that will be refunded to you for the time you had left.
  5. Confirm the request. Our team reviews it, credits the balance to you and activates the change.

Once the change is active, the VPS is no longer charged in the client area: it is billed per hour from your Manager balance, under the new rates, and all the Cloud mode options become available.

The time you already paid for is not lost: it comes back as balance

If your Legacy VPS was paid in advance, you do not lose the time you have left: when you convert it to Cloud we refund that amount as balance in your Manager account, and that balance is exactly what pays for the hourly usage of the new Cloud VPS.

The amount is proportional to the days you had left until the next renewal:

period price ÷ days in the period × days remaining = balance to refund

Real example: a VPS with a fee of 71.60 € per year with 27 days left until renewal:

71.60 € ÷ 365 days = 0.20 €/day × 27 days = 5.30 € of balance

That amount is an estimate you will see in the summary before confirming. A member of our team reviews it and credits it to you as balance when processing the conversion. From then on, that balance is drawn down per hour based on the Cloud VPS usage.

Frequently asked questions

The Manager shows an amount for my Legacy VPS, but I pay a different amount. Which one is right? The one you pay in the client area (cli.ginernet.com), which is where your Legacy VPS keeps being charged at your usual rate. The amount you see in the Manager is only a reference of what that VPS would cost if you converted it to Cloud under the new rates. Until you convert, you are not charged anything through the Manager.

I see a billing section with "accrued spend" and a "monthly price", but I already paid in advance. Does it affect me? No, while your VPS stays on Legacy: it is charged as always in the client area and your advance payment is honoured until the renewal date. Hourly usage and balance only come into play when you convert the VPS to Cloud. Also, the "monthly price" shown is indicative (it varies with the number of days in each month); the real Cloud charge is per hour.

Is the monthly price a maximum limit? No. It is an approximation to give you an idea; the real charge is per hour. If you want to see the exact price of a configuration, you can run a simulation by starting to create a VPS in your Cloud VDC (you do not need to confirm it if you only want to check the price).

Are there discounts if I convert to Cloud? Cloud offers are applied when you top up balance, not to the VPS price, because it is a prepaid pay-per-use model. On your dashboard you will find the "bonuses": redeeming one on a top-up gives you extra balance.

I do not see any balance in my account. That is normal if you have not converted any service or topped up yet: Legacy VPS do not use balance. Balance appears when you top up from the Balance section or when you convert a VPS and we credit you the amount for the time you had paid.

If I reboot the server, will it work the same? Yes. Power on, off, reboot, the console and reinstall work exactly the same on Legacy and on Cloud. Converting to Cloud does not change how the system works: it only changes how it is paid and adds new options (scaling resources, manual backups, firewall, etc.).

Before converting, please note:

  • Moving from Legacy to Cloud cannot be undone: a Cloud VPS does not go back to Legacy.
  • From activation onwards, the service is no longer charged in the client area and is paid per hour from your Manager balance, under the new rates.
  • Your main IP does not change: the VPS keeps its address.

Your data and your configuration are not affected by the conversion. The VPS is still the same one; only the way it is paid and the management options available to you change.
