With a WHM hosting plan you get a space where you can create and manage your own cPanel accounts, one per domain. This guide covers the first steps to manage it.
Before you start, keep the two panels clear:
- WHM is the administrator panel: from it you add domains (cPanel accounts), assign resources and manage every account.
- cPanel is the end-client panel: from it each website is managed individually (files, email, databases...).
This guide applies to the GINERNET plans that include WHM: Reseller Hosting and Elastic Hosting.
Access URLs
When you signed up you received an email with your WHM access details. The URLs are:
| Service | Access URL |
|---|---|
| WHM | https://yourdomain.com/whm |
| cPanel | https://yourdomain.com/cpanel |
| Webmail | https://yourdomain.com/webmail |
Lost the welcome email? You can check your username and change the password at any time from the client area.
If an external webmaster or administrator manages one of your websites, do not give them WHM access: they would control all your accounts. Give them only the cPanel access of the domain they will work on (we explain how below).
Creating a cPanel account (adding a domain)
Hosting a new domain means creating a cPanel account for it:
- Log in to WHM and click Create a New Account. You can find any option instantly with the search box in the top-left corner, below the logo.
- Fill in the form fields:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Domain | The domain of your new website |
| Username | The cPanel and FTP login for this domain |
| Password | The cPanel and FTP password for this domain |
| The address where you will receive alerts if something goes wrong with this account | |
| Package | The resource package (space, limits) assigned to this account |
If a webmaster is going to build the website, hand them only the Username and Password of this cPanel account: they will be able to work on that domain without touching the rest.
Changing the resources of an account
If a domain needs more space or different limits, change its assigned package from WHM » Upgrade/Downgrade an Account: select the account and assign the new package.
Accessing the cPanel of a domain
WHM » List Accounts shows all your accounts. Each domain includes a button that opens its cPanel directly, no password required.
First time using cPanel? We walk you through it step by step in the Getting started with cPanel guide.
cPanel password and FTP access
The FTP account of each domain uses the same username and password as its cPanel.
If you do not remember an account's password, go to WHM » List Accounts, find the domain and expand its options with the + button: one of them lets you change the password. The username is also shown in that same list.
