This guide is for customers with domains in the Manager. If you have just arrived, start with Welcome to the Manager. If you have never signed in yet, first request your password at manager.ginernet.com/forgot-password: your account already exists, but without a password.
Your domains are still registered where they were, with the same nameservers and the same expiry date. Your website and email work as before. What changes is where you manage them from and how their renewal is paid.
Where your domains are
Menu Web Hosting » Domains. The list shows each domain with its status, expiry date and auto-renewal, together with the yearly renewal price. You can turn auto-renewal on or off from the list itself.
When you open a domain you see its page. The main tabs are:
- Overview: status, expiry, renewal, transfer lock and EPP code, and a summary of the other sections.
- Contacts: the owner and the administrative, technical and billing contacts.
- Nameservers: which nameservers the domain points to.
- Glue records and DNSSEC: advanced options, only if you run your own nameservers.
- Tasks: the history of operations with the registry (renewals, DNS changes…).
If your domain points to a GINERNET hosting account, DNS records (A, MX, TXT…) are still edited from cPanel as always. On the Nameservers tab you only choose which servers the domain points to.
To register a new domain, or bring one you have with another provider, use the Register or transfer a domain button on the list.
How renewal works
With auto-renewal turned on:
- We email you 60, 30 and 7 days before expiry.
- 30 days before expiry we charge the renewal from your balance and renew the domain.
- If there is not enough balance that day, we let you know by email and retry every day, also during the grace period after expiry. As soon as you top up, the next attempt renews it.
With auto-renewal turned off you only get the reminders: if you do not renew it yourself, the domain expires.
Domains do not have their own balance: the renewal is charged from your account's general balance, the same one that pays for your hosting. If you only have domains, your balance is probably at zero, so top up before the renewal date. If you hover over auto-renewal, the panel tells you the date of the first attempt.
Some extensions require renewing for a minimum of several years; in that case auto-renewal uses that minimum.
Renewing manually or for several years
On the domain page, the Renew button lets you renew it whenever you want, for one or several years. You see the total before confirming and it is charged from your balance. Some extensions only allow renewal in the last month before expiry: if it is not possible yet, the panel tells you and nothing is charged.
If the domain expires
An expired domain goes through several stages. We email you every time it changes stage, and the domain page shows which one it is in. How long each stage lasts depends on the extension.
- Expired (grace period). The domain stops working (or will shortly), but it can still be renewed at the normal price. If auto-renewal is on, it keeps being retried every day. If not, renew it as soon as possible with the Renew button.
- In redemption. The registry has withdrawn the domain and it can no longer be renewed, only restored. On the domain page you have the Restore domain button with its price, which is higher than a renewal and includes one year. For some extensions the restore has no published price: in that case, write to us from Support.
- Pending deletion. It can no longer be renewed or restored. The domain will become available in a few days.
- Deleted. The domain no longer exists in the registry. If it is still available, you can register it again.
Moving the domain to another provider
All your domains are locked against transfers: nobody can take them without your permission. To transfer one to another provider you do not need to open a ticket:
- On the domain page, Overview tab, go to the Transfer to another provider section and click Get EPP code.
- The domain is unlocked for 30 days and within a few seconds we show you its authorisation code (also called EPP code or AuthCode) so you can copy it. For security, we email the primary contact of the account.
- Give that code to your new provider and request the transfer there.
The domain page shows until when it stays unlocked. If it has not been transferred within those 30 days, it is locked again automatically and the code is no longer shown; if you need it again, just request it again. If you change your mind before then, click Lock again.
Once the new provider requests the transfer, the registry may take up to about 5 days to complete it (for some extensions it is almost immediate). For some domains we let you know by email and on the domain page so you can approve it right away, without waiting, or reject it if you did not request it. When it completes, the domain shows as Transferred and is no longer managed or renewed from the Manager.
A domain in redemption or pending deletion cannot be transferred: restore it first. Some registries email the owner to confirm the transfer, so make sure the owner's email is up to date on the Contacts tab.
Changing the owner
To change a domain's owner, open a ticket from Support.
If your domains came from the client area
- They keep their expiry date: the period you already paid for is still valid.
- Auto-renewal stays as you had it in the client area. Check it on the list.
- No balance has been credited for them. The next renewal will be charged from your balance at the current Manager price, shown on the list.
- If one expires in the coming weeks, top up as soon as possible: if there are fewer than 30 days left, the renewal charge is attempted right away.
